2026 COMET HEALTH EQUITY AWARDS
COMET is thrilled to announce the following opportunities for Health Equity Leadership Awards. These awards honor individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to COMET's vision in advancing health equity in underserved communities through education, advocacy, clinical work, and community partnerships. Nominees should exemplify leadership, innovation, and compassion in reducing health disparities and promoting inclusive, community centered, and culturally humble care.
Awardees will be notified by July 10, and recognized at the conclusion of the COMET conference. Additionally, awardees will have applicable travel expenses (coach air and/or ground travel and 1 night at the Courtyard Marriott) reimbursed.
The deadline to submit a nomination is Friday, May 15 at 5PM.
Self-nominations are welcome, and can be accompanied by a letter of recommendation from someone familiar with how you meet the award criteria.
Letters of recommendation can be emailed to COMET@health.ucdavis.edu with the nominee’s name and award in the subject title.
AWARD CATEGORIES:

Eligibility: Medical students enrolled at a COMET-affiliated institution.
Selection Criteria:
Demonstrated commitment to advancing health equity for underserved or marginalized communities through research, advocacy, service, or community engagement.
Evidence of leadership in health equity–related initiatives, projects, or student organizations.
Creative or innovative approaches to addressing systemic barriers in medical education or healthcare access.
Embodiment of the COMET mission to cultivate a diverse, community-responsive, and equity-focused physician workforce.

Eligibility: Residents or fellows in a program affiliated with the COMET network.
Selection Criteria:
Outstanding clinical, advocacy, scholarly, or quality improvement efforts that advance care for rural, Tribal, or otherwise underserved communities.
Active engagement in institutional or system-level initiatives that improve equity in healthcare delivery or training environments.
Mentorship and role modeling that supports trainees and uplifts marginalized voices in medicine.
Innovation in developing sustainable, community-partnered approaches to addressing health disparities.

Eligibility: Practicing physicians, faculty, or community-based clinical educators affiliated with COMET institutions.
Selection Criteria:
Sustained and impactful leadership in advancing health equity for marginalized populations.
Advocacy, policy engagement, or institutional leadership that has led to meaningful improvements in healthcare access, outcomes, or educational equity.
Commitment to mentoring and developing the next generation of health equity–focused healthcare professionals.
Meaningful collaboration with community partners to co-design responsive, culturally grounded health initiatives.

Eligibility: Administrative, programmatic, or operational staff affiliated with COMET institutions or programs.
Selection Criteria:
Demonstrated commitment to advancing equity, inclusion, and belonging within healthcare education or delivery systems.
Leadership in implementing programs, processes, or initiatives that improve access, support learners, or reduce barriers for underserved communities.
Contributions that strengthen institutional culture and infrastructure in support of health equity.
Collaborative work that bridges faculty, learners, and community partners to advance shared goals.

Eligibility: Community-based organizations, Tribal organizations, nonprofits, public health entities, or community leaders collaborating with COMET institutions.
Selection Criteria:
Demonstrated impact in advancing health equity, community wellness, or healthcare access for underserved populations.
Leadership in community-driven solutions that address social and structural determinants of health.
Meaningful partnership with medical education programs, healthcare systems, or trainees.
Commitment to culturally responsive, community-informed approaches that empower and uplift the populations served.
