Collective impact
at our core.
Across California and Oregon, learners, educators, physicians, researchers, and community organizations are working to strengthen the physician workforce and improve access to care.
COMET brings these efforts together, helping people share knowledge, discover opportunities, build partnerships, and turn shared priorities into action.
Our priorities grow from the people and communities involved in the work.
We connect perspectives, experiences, and expertise across sectors.
We work toward practical resources, shared opportunities, and meaningful outcomes.
Where connection becomes action.
From building relationships to sharing educational opportunities, these efforts help our collaborative stay connected and move forward together.
Stay connected. Find your people. Share what you know.
COMET's Slack community was created in response to members who wanted to stay connected between convenings.
With spaces for announcements, introductions, events, resources, scholarly collaborations, questions, and success stories, members can exchange ideas and discover opportunities throughout the year.
Dedicated channels also support pre-medical students, medical students and residents, and faculty and educators.
Learning should travel beyond institutional boundaries.
COMET partners with the Family Medicine Network to promote upcoming virtual Grand Rounds and encourage prospective speakers to share their knowledge and expertise.
Whether you're interested in attending, suggesting a topic, or presenting your work, we invite you to participate.
Bringing people together to move ideas forward.
Our COMET conference creates opportunities for learners, educators, community organizations, and health workforce partners to exchange ideas, share scholarship, and build relationships.
Following our 2026 gathering, we're looking ahead to a larger collective convening in Sacramento in 2028, with plans to coordinate efforts alongside the statewide PRIME conference and Family Medicine Network conference.
What we're building together.
Each year, COMET identifies priorities informed by the needs, interests, and ideas of our community.
Here's where we're focusing our collective efforts in the year ahead.
Interactive Clinical & Mentorship Experiences Map
We're developing a searchable resource to connect learners at every stage — from pre-medical education through residency and fellowship — with clinical rotations, electives, mentorship, research, and graduate medical education opportunities across California and Oregon.
The map will include filters for rural and underserved experiences. We'll gather opportunities through dedicated surveys for organizations offering clinical experiences and individuals interested in mentorship.

Documenting Our Co-Design Journey
COMET grew from a collaborative co-design process shaped by people and organizations across our network.
A working group is beginning a research and publication effort to document that journey, share lessons learned, and contribute to the broader conversation about building sustainable collaborations.
Exploring a Pre-Medical Conference
Inspired by the enthusiasm and participation of pre-medical students at our 2026 conference, we're exploring hosting a pre-medical conference in 2027.
Our hope is to create opportunities for aspiring physicians to connect with mentors, explore pathways into medicine, and learn from organizations and professionals across the region.
Resources built to be shared.
Before COMET, the COMPADRE collaborative developed educational resources to support learners and educators.
These Canvas courses reflect our continued commitment to sharing knowledge and strengthening connections across institutions.
Our work grows through people like you.
You don't need to lead an initiative to make a difference. Share an opportunity. Introduce a partner. Contribute your expertise. Help connect us with organizations doing meaningful work. Or explore ways to financially support the collaborative.
